Track and Field Lady Bucs win meet at Lewis County

WESTON – Looking to break up the monotony of spring break practice, the Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Bucs of head coach Jackie Zuliani went across Route 33 Tuesday to attend a weekly meet hosted by Lewis County High School.

It was another victory for the Lady Bucs as they outpointed Liberty for the win.

The Lady Bucs picked up 158 points while Liberty collected 147.

Tucker was third in the six-team event with 91 while Lewis County was fourth with 60.

“A full week of practice and with everyone having spring fever isn’t a good combination so we decided to do this small meet during the week just to break up the training a bit,” remarked Zuliani. “Almost everyone had four events, so they got a workout in, but didn’t really think of it as one.”

The Lady Bucs won eight events, six individual and two relays, to bring home the team title.

Catherine Oliveto won a trio of events –  the 200-meter dash (27.55), the 400-meter dash (1:03.55) and the long jump (15-00.00).

Kennedi Lewellyn was victorious in the 300-meter hurdles (50.84) and the pole vault (9-03) while Cameron Zuliani picked up the other first in the discus (93.11.50).

The two relay teams that were triumphant were the 4 x 200-meter relay foursome of Kennedi Lewellyn, Oliveto, Zuliani and Makenzi Lewellyn with a time of 1:50.93 and the 4 x 400-meter quartet of Kierra Arbogast, Zuliani, Yami Cerna, Makenzi Lewellyn with a clocking of 4:30.33.

Buckhannon-Upshur picked up six runner-up spots.

Individual seconds went to Makenzi Lewellyn in the 400-meter dash (1:04.88) and the pole vault (9-00), McKenzie Reynolds in the 1600-meter run (6:18.95) and Kaitlyn Luterek in the shot put (30-01.50).

The two relay teams that earned seconds were the 4 x 800-meter relay foursome of Reynolds, Cerna, Johnna Smith and Tessa Hollen (11:43.87) and the 4 x 102.5 meter shuttle hurdles unit of Kennedi Lewellyn, Arbogast, Zuliani and Iris Kolenich (1:12.00).

Hollen in the 800-meter run (2:54.75) and Cerna in the 400-meter run (1:05.77) earned a pair of thirds.

Earning fourths were Cerna in the 200-meter dash (29.73), Kolenich in the high jump (4-08) and Breanna Morgan in the discus throw (78-06).

The Lady Bucs were slated to run in the Harry Green Invitational Saturday.

They will return to action Tuesday when they host a weekly meet starting at 4 p.m.
