Track and Field Lady Bucs win again in weekly home meet

TENNERTON – Six event wins led to another team title for the Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Bucs Tuesday evening in their weekly home meet.

The Lady Bucs easily won the six-team event with 132 points while Elkins was second with 108 and Preston was third with 104.

B-U won the team title even with head coach Jackie Zuliani mixing up her roster some during the event as the surprise win came in the 4 x 800-meter relay for the Lady Bucs.

“I put some girls in some different events and relays and they really did well,” remarked Zuliani. “I threw the Lewellyn twins and Yami Cerna in the 4 x 800-meter relay with McKenzie Reynolds and they all got low 2:30 splits and would be ranked fourth in Class AAA with their time. I put them in it as a workout, but I was also curious to see what they would run. Preston was undefeated in the 4 x 800-meter relay but Makenzi Lewellyn held off their last leg for the win.

The Lady Bucs earned four individual victories and one more relay win.

Kennedi Lewellyn once again dominated the 300-meter hurdles winning the event by almost four seconds.

She also claimed the pole vault title clearing 9-00.

Catherine Oliveto earned a win in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:02.17 while taking second in the 100-meter dash (13.06) and the 200-meter dash (27.78).

She also placed third in the long jump clearing 14-05.

Individually,  Cameron Zuliani won the discus throw by a huge margin clearing 110-01 and placed second in the shot put with a heave of 29-07.

“Cameron hasn’t thrown shot put in over a month because of wrist issues and I threw her back in it and she got a personal best throw,” noted Zuliani.

The other first went to the 4 x 102.5 meter shuttle hurdle foursome of Zuliani, Reynolds, Kierra Arbogast and Kennedi Lewellyn with a time of 1:13.10.

One other relay team earned a runner-up spot, the 4 x 400-meter quartet of Cerna, Arbogast, Reynolds and Tessa Hollen with a time of 4:59.96.

Makenzi Lewellyn earned a second as well in the pole vault clearing 8-06.

Arbogast in the 100-meter hurdles (18.84), Reynolds in the high jump (4-06) and Luterek in the shot put (29-07) all earned thirds as did the 4 x 200-meter relay foursome of Cerna, Arbogast, Hollen and Makenzi Lewellyn (1:59.13).

“I always tell the team whether it is a big meet or a small one, no matter what event you are doing, do your very best and always compete,” stated Zuliani.

The Lady Bucs will return to action today and tomorrow in the two-day Charleston Gazette Relays.
