Thropp scores 23 as JV Bucs cruise past Elkins, 57-29

TENNERTON – Shelton Thropp scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Buckhannon-Upshur junior varsity Bucs to a convincing 57-29 win over the Elkins Tigers Friday night at the high school gym.

It was the final game of the year for the junior varsity Bucs.

Thropp got things started right from the beginning by pouring in 12 of B-U’s 14 first-quarter points as the Bucs took a 14-6 lead after one quarter.

Oliver King had the other first-quarter basket for the Bucs.

B-U won the second quarter by a 17-7 margin with Zach Calef-Boring going for seven points while King put in six, Shawn Blandino three and Ian Strader one.

That gave the Bucs a 31-13 advantage at the half.

Buckhannon-Upshur extended their lead in the third quarter winning it by a 12-8 count with Thropp scoring seven points, Calef-Boring three and Blandino two.

That treated the Bucs to a 43-21 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

The Bucs never let up winning the final quarter, 14-8, with Strader knocking down a pair of three-pointers, Thropp adding two baskets and Calef-Boring and Wilbur Snider each putting in one basket.

Trailing Thropp in scoring for the Bucs were Calef-Boring with 12 points and King with eight.

Andy Shiflett had a team-high eight points for Elkins.

The junior varsity Buccaneers ended their year with an 8-6 mark.
