GREENWOOD (Ind.) — Lauren Baumgartner, Kayla Fay and Natalie Pireu of the West Virginia Wesleyan women's soccer squad and Javier De Ona Garcia of the West Virginia Wesleyan men’s soccer team landed spots on the CoSIDA District 2 Academic All-District Team, the association announced on Thursday.
Baumgartner is a junior from Pittsburgh, Pa. majoring in biochemistry. The West Virginia Wesleyan defender earned a 3.96 GPA in the classroom. Baumgartner was a mainstay of the Lady Bobcat defense and logged 816 minutes in nine games.
Fay graduated with a degree in biochemistry and notched a 3.68 GPA. The Howell, N.J. native scored three goals and one assist in her senior campaign. The captain led the team in minutes (861) and game-winning goals (2).
A marketing major from Granville, Ohio, Pireu achieved a 3.90 GPA. Pireu scored three goals and one assist in the spring for WVWC. The junior defender started all nine games for the Lady Bobcats.
De Ona Garcia, a midfielder from Madrid, Spain appeared in seven matches starting in six during the 2021 spring season. De Ona Garcia's recognition comes after amassing a 3.89 GPA in Business Administration/Economics.
The Lady ‘Cats ended their season with a 4-3-2 record while the Bobcats finished up with a 4-5 record.
First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot.
First, second, and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early July.
