Three Lady Buc spikers earn All-Big honors


TENNERTON — A trio of Buckhannon-Upshur High School volleyball players have earned spots on the All-Big 10 Conference teams.

Senior Sydney Maxwell and junior Madi Shepherd were first-team selections, while sophomore Abigail Vincent was named to the second team.

Maxwell led the Lady Bucs with 217 kills on the season. Shepherd was second with 203 and Vincent recorded 114.

Coach Sheena Westfall’s squad compiled an overall mark of 21-17-2 and finished fourth in the Big 10 with a 9-3 record.

Three-time Class AA state champion Philip Barbour and Bridgeport each had three first-team selections, followed by Robert C. Byrd with two and Elkins and East Fairmont with one apiece.

Philip Barbour’s McKenzie Carpenter was the league’s Player of the Year and RCB’s Ron Gilmore was the Coach of the Year.
