Three Bucs named to Big 10 All-Conference baseball team

Alek Seech of the Buckhannon-Upshur Buccaneers was named to the Big 10 All-Conference Baseball First Team squad. Seech led the Bucs with a .402 batting average and struck out just nine times in 116 plate appearances.

Seech earns First Team honors while Herron and Bailey named to Second Team

TENNERTON – Three Buckhannon-Upshur Buccaneer baseball players were included as part of the 2019 Big 10 All-Conference baseball team.

Alek Seech was honored on the First Team while teammates Logan Bailey and Andrew Herron were selected as members of the Second Team.

Seech was named as a utility player on the First Team.

The senior infielder led the Bucs in hitting with a .402 average collecting 35 hits in 87 at-bats.

He had 14 extra-base hits (nine doubles and five triples) while scoring 33 runs and knocking in 24.

He drew 22 walks and struck out just nine times in 116 plate appearances.

He also led the team in on-base percentage (.531) and slugging percentage (.621).

On the mound, he appeared in five games and pitched 5 1/3 innings allowing just one unearned run on six hits while striking out four.

The senior Herron earned his Second Team honor as a pitcher.

Herron was a closer for the Bucs appearing in 12 games pitching 23 2/3 innings.

He posted a 2-0 record with two saves.

He owned an impressive 0.88 earned-run-average allowing just three earned runs on 13 hits while striking out 17.

At the plate, he hit .268 with 26 hits in 106 at-bats.

He had eight extra-base hits with five doubles, two triples and a home run.

He scored 19 times and knocked in 11 runs.

Bailey, a senior outfielder, was selected to the Second Team as an outfielder.

At the plate, he was second on the team in hitting with a .340 average pounding out 35 hits in 103 at-bats.

He hit 12 extra-base hits with eight doubles, two triples and two home runs.

He scored a team-best 36 runs and collected 15 RBIs.

He was second on the team in on-base percentage (.414) and second on the team in slugging percentage (.515).

Bailey started nine games on the mound for the Bucs compiling a 1-5 record. He pitched 29.2 innings and struck out 27.

Hunter Moore of Lincoln was named the Big 10 Conference Player of the Year while Matt Gainer of Elkins was tabbed as the Big 10 Conference Pitcher of the Year.

Philip Barbour’s Jonathan Carpenter was honored as the Big 10 Conference Coach of the Year.
