FAIRMONT — The Buccaneers soccer team traveled to Fairmont East High School and left with a big win on Tuesday, September 21.
The final score was 4 – 0 in favor of Buckhannon-Upshur High School. In the 4th minute, Zach Calef-Boring was assisted by Camdin Carpenter with a kick to the penalty area and finished by the back post. Calef-Boring then assisted Noah Radabaugh in the 28th minute with a cross kick from the right side of the penalty area, also finishing by the back post. Branson Carpenter, assisted by Caden Andrick, shot a diagonal ball to the near post and at the end of the game, Julien Larcher shot a penalty kick sealing the win.
Coach Mike Donato said, “Two big things we emphasized in practice were quick passing and movement, and shooting on the frame. We saw big improvements on both of those fronts tonight. We challenge the team early on to attack the goal and look for quick opportunities in transition as we’ve really been lacking in scoring the past few games. The team really stepped up to that challenge. Of course, anytime you shut out an opponent, you have to give a lot of credit to the back line and keeper. We’ve made some positional adjustments the past few days and tonight was the best it had looked. The few shots on goal we gave up were easy for Dalton to manage and that’s exactly what we ask those defenders to do.”
