INSTITUTE – The West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcat tennis team dropped a pair of 7-0 road decisions to West Virginia State and Fairmont State this past weekend.
Visiting West Virginia State on Saturday, in doubles action, Wesleyan was down after giving a default point to WVSU after forfeiting at No.3.
At No.1, the duo of Julia Pinto and Rebecca Osborne fell to their opponents by a 6-1 to clinch the doubles point for State.
The Yellow Jackets gained a default point at No. 6 singles to put them up 2-0.
Molly Hull gave a strong effort at No. 3 for Wesleyan but eventually lost her match (6-2, 6-1.
West Virginia State went onto sweep the rest of the singles matches to finish out the day.
On Sunday against Fairmont State, the Falcons had the early advantage after gaining a default point at No.3.
Osborne and Pinto were paired together again at No.1. and the duo gave a valiant effort but eventually lost the match 6-3 to their opposition giving Fairmont State the doubles point.
In singles action at No. 2, Pinto and Fairmont State’s Isadora Matos had a great match.
The two battled it out at and the match eventually went to a third set after Pinto won the second set 7-5 after dropping the first 6-2. The third set was filled with more excitement, but Pinto couldn't edge out her counterpart dropping the set, 6-4.
Fairmont State swept the rest of the singles matches on the way to a 7-0 victory.
WVWC will be back in action on Friday at home against the Davis & Elkins Senators.
