WHEELING – The Buckhannon-Upshur boys tennis team lost a hard-fought 4-3 decision to regional foe Wheeling Park on the road Wednesday evening.
The loss ended the Bucs four-game winning streak.
It left them with a 7-3 record.
Picking up singles wins were No. 2 Caden Andrick beating Wyatt Andrews, 9-7, and No. 3 Hank Phillips downing Ryan Quickel, 8-2.
Andrick and Phillips teamed up at No. 2 doubles for an 8-4 win over Nick Trischler and Grant Kenomond.
“I think we have a stronger boys team overall but unfortunately it wasn’t our night,” remarked Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Jason Rock. “Bailey and Garrett got down too much early and couldn’t come back from 7-0, but they did well to win three games in a row. Aden couldn’t get his first serve going and lost a close one in singles. I think when we meet Wheeling Park again in a few weeks at home, our boys will come out on top.”
The Bucs were slated to play Lewis County on Thursday and will host a doubleheader on Saturday, taking on Philip Barbour at 10 a.m. and John Marshall at 1 p.m.
