BUCKHANNON – The rain forced the Buckhannon-Upshur-Bridgeport boys tennis match back from Friday to Saturday morning, but it was worth the wait for the tennis Bucs.
The Bucs earned a hard-fought 4-3 victory of the Indians.
“Bridgeport is a conference and regional opponent, so this was a big match,” said Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Jason Rock. “The Bridgeport coach told me that other coaches in the conference informed her they think our boys may be the best team in the conference. I challenged my team to defend that reputation. It was close, but they did a great job to pull out the win. Every match was competitive and fun to watch.”
The Bucs earned three points in singles action.
No. 2 Caden Andrick beat Paul Hong, 8-1, No. 3 Hank Phillips downed Jacob Holbert, 8-3, and No. 4 Mauricio Menendez beat Kyle Walker, 8-4.
In doubles action, Andrick and Phillips got the lone win as they beat Jensen Clayton and Josh Jackson, 8-3.
The win improved the Bucs to 7-2 on the season.
They were slated visit Philip Barbour yesterday but that match got washed out.
They will visit Bridgeport today in a return match and then travel to Wheeling Park on Wednesday.
