Tennis Bobcats secure MEC Tournament bid with win against D&E

ELKINS — The WVWC Bobcats Tennis Team took down Davis & Elkins on Friday, April 22 to secure a bid into the Mountain East Conference tournament. The Bobcats outclassed their opposition by a final tally of 5-2, securing a conference tournament bid in the process. 

The Bobcats got the series started with wins at #1 and #3-seed lines in doubles play to secure the opening point in the contest to get the scoring started. The double pairings of Taylor Papworth and Khiro Karasawa won 6-0 on the #1-seed line, while Nicolas Zumba and Ethan Thomas won 6-3 on the #3-seed line, allowing the Bobcats to draw the first blood of the day. 

Karasawa and Papworth both won their matchups in singles with Papworth using a third set to defeat his opponent on the #2-seed line, 6-4, 3-6, 6-1. The two victories gave WVWC the 3-0 advantage. Camillo Salvi and Anthony McIntosh would defeat their opponents on the #3 and #5-seed lines to secure the match and round out the scoring for WVWC. Salvi won in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 to claim his match on the #3-seed line, while McIntosh won 6-3, 6-3 at #5-seed line to follow suite.
