Ten Lady Bucs set for track and field state championships this weekend

HEADING TO STATES — Ten Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Buc track and field performers are heading to Charleston this weekend for the West Virginia State Championships. CHARLESTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Buc track and field team will be sending 10 performers in seven events to the state championships this Friday and Saturday.

Four Lady Bucs will compete in three individual events – the 400-meter dash, the long jump and the discus.

Chloe Cale will compete in the long jump where she is ranked third in best performances of the year with her best jump being 16-085. University’s Sierra Lanham has the best jump of the year thus far at 17-110.

Cameron Zuliani will compete in the discus where she is currently fourth. Her best throw of the year was at regionals where she won the Region I title with a throw of 111-11.

The best throw in the state belongs to Huntington’s Ravyn Goodson at 115-00.

Catherine Neely will also compete in the discus for the Lady Bucs.

She is unranked but finished third at the Region I meet with a throw of 99-00.

Dezi Pugh will run in the 400-meter dash where she is unranked but took fifth at the regional meet with an at-large bid time of 1:01.95.

Four Lady Buc relay teams will take to the track at the state meet.

The shuttle hurdle relay team is ranked third going into states.

The team consists of Kierra Arbogast, Zuliani, Pugh and Cale with their best time this year being a 1:09.35. The top time belongs to Wheeling Park with a 1:08.01.

The 4x200-meter and the 4x400-meter relay teams are both ranked fifth in the state.

The 4x200-meter foursome of Pugh, Zuliani, Catherine Oliveto and Cale has a season-best time of 1:48.94 while the top time in the state is Jefferson’s at 1:45.62.

The 4x400-meter unit is made up of Miah Reger, Zuliani, Oliveto and Pugh with a season-best time of 4:18.78.

The best time in the state is Morgantown’s at 4:07.70.

The 4x800-meter relay team of Jessica Williams, Ashley Catlin, Reger and Allison Andrew is unranked heading into the state meet. They finished sixth at regionals with a time of 11:40.04.

The Lady Bucs are currently ranked 10th in the RunWV power rankings.
