Sylvia Lanham Regester, age 90 years, a resident of Buckhannon, West Virginia and Newark, Delaware, passed away Thursday, May 7, 2020 at her Newark, Delaware residence.
She was born August 10, 1929 at Hall, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Oral Benton and Texie Margaret Thompson Lanham.
On November 10, 1948 at Buckhannon, West Virginia, she was united in marriage to Garry Homer Regester who survives at their home.
Additional survivors include children: Mary Maddox and husband Eugene of Bowie, Maryland, Wanetta Conner of Harrison County, West Virginia, Margaret Steiner and husband Larry of Elkton, Maryland, David Regester and wife Susan of Newark, Delaware, Hilda Balascio and husband Thomas of Wilmington, Delaware. Grandchildren surviving are David Conner and wife Caryn, Karen Davis and husband Scott, Christina Steiner, Scott Maddox and wife Katie, Timothy Steiner and wife Kimberly, Paul Maddox, Laura Natale and husband Kenneth, Emily Boles and husband Daniel, and Joseph Balascio. Great-grandchildren surviving are KatiAnne and husband Will, Rachel, Andrew, Nathan, Owen, Deacon, Brady, Sierra, Tiffany, Caroline, Gage, and one great great-grandchild Hazel.
She is also survived by one brother Arthur Lanham of Elkton, Maryland, and siblings preceding her in death are Cecil, George, Charles, and Delbert Lanham.
Mrs. Regester attended the Swamp Run and Rock Spring schools in Upshur County and graduated from the Buckhannon-Upshur High School with the class of 1948. She was a homemaker and member of the River Church of Christ. She loved to crochet, sew, and embroidery pillowcases. She was an excellent domino and Chinese checker player, she loved spending time with family and grandchildren, she loved to garden and cook, and she passed that trait down to her daughters. Mrs. Regester also loved to attend Gospel Meetings, Bible Lectureships, and area Hymn Sings with her husband Garry. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home 56 N. Brandenburg Street in Belington on Tuesday, May 12, 2020 from 10 a.m. - 11 a.m. the funeral hour, when final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with Albert Farley officiating. Due to the Covid-19 restrictions there will only be allowed 25 people in the funeral home at any given time. Interment will follow in the Regester Family Cemetery in the Water Camp Community near Belington. Condolences can be made to the family at www.talbottfuneralhome.com.
