BUCKHANNON – For the second straight game, the 22nd-ranked West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcats waited until the second half to find the back of the net.
In Tuesday night’s Mountain East Conference game with Concord, Wesleyan scored three times in the second half en route to a 3-0 victory.
In their home opener against Slippery Rock this past Saturday, the Lady ‘Cats scored both of their goals in the second half in a 2-1 win.
With most of the game played in a down pour, neither team found the net in the first half.
Amy Stewart broke the deadlock in the 65th minute with an unassisted goal. She played a deflected ball from outside the 18 past Concord keeper Katie Maher.
In the 70th minute, Wesleyan made it 2-0 when Maher stopped a shot, rolled the ball out in front of her right to Shannon Shawgo, who put a shot over Maher and into the net.
Natalie Prater wrapped up the score with four minutes left in the game when she played a ball from Kayla Fay and beat Maher with a shot from outside the 18.
Wesleyan outshot Concord by an 18-12. Lady Bobcat keeper Ashlee Schumacher stopped all six shots she faced for her first shutout of the season.
Wesleyan (2-0-1 overall and 1-0 in the MEC) will host Urbana at 5 p.m. today for a 5 p.m. MEC contest.
