He was born June 23, 1951 in Buckhannon, West Virginia, a son of the late Theodore R. Zickefoose and Marion Bennett Zickefoose Fitzgerald.
Steve is survived by his beloved Yorkshire Terrier, “Princess” Buckey. Steve was a 1969 graduate of Buckhannon-Upshur High School and a 1973 graduate of West Virginia University. He worked at Apple Creek Developmental Center in Apple Creek, Ohio, retiring in 2005 with 30 years of service. After retirement, Steve felt the mountains calling and in 2012, relocated to Denver, Colorado.
Steve had a love of gardening and was a world traveler, visiting over 35 major countries, making lasting friendships worldwide. He was an avid fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes and was a season ticket holder for many years. He was also a huge fan of his Alma Mater, the West Virginia Mountaineers. Although Steve traveled and lived in many different places, he always considered West Virginia home.
