CHARLESTON (AP) – West Virginia Superintendent of Schools Clayton Burch has asked all school systems to cancel sports activities beginning Monday to help slow the spread of coronavirus.
The announcement was made on the West Virginia Department of Education’s Facebook page Friday morning.
“Upon guidance from the Office of Governor Jim Justice and state medical officials, Superintendent Burch strongly recommends that all school extracurricular activities be canceled starting Monday, March 16, 2020,” according to the post.
“This does not include student care programs such as the 21st Century Learning and child nutrition programs. The cancellation is effective until April 10, 2020, and it will be reviewed at that time.”
