Special Olympians support Buccaneers

The Buckhannon-Upshur boys’ basketball team takes time to pose for a picture with the Upshur County Special Olympians prior to their basketball game with the Philip Barbour Colts Thursday at the high school.

TENNERTON  – The Buckhannon-Upshur – Philip Barbour basketball game Thursday night was dubbed “Special Olympics Night” by the Buccaneer basketball program.

The Bucs invited members of Upshur County’s Special Olympic athletic teams, including basketball players, to watch their game with the Colts.

“I thought it was great that the Special Olympic athletes came to support us,” remarked Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Travis Foster. “It was nice that we were able to work with them and Charliena Eubank, director of Special Olympics in Upshur County. It was special for us to win the game for them.”

The Bucs defeated the Colts by an 80-53 score.

“We appreciate them coming to support us and we want them to know we will be supporting them in their upcoming games.”
