Softball Little Lady Bucs down Mountaineer, 19-11


CLARKSBURG – The Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School Little Lady Bucs dropped a 17-0 decision to visiting Lincoln last Wednesday, but bounced back on the road Thursday to deal Mountaineer (Clarksburg) a 19-11 licking.

In the loss to Lincoln, Tori Perkins singled with one out in the first inning for Buckhannon’s lone hit.

Lincoln scored one in the second inning, three in the third and fourth, and ended the game on the mercy rule with a 10-run spree in the fifth.

Jansen Kimble suffered the loss, surrendering 10 hits, walking seven and fanning two. Only six of the runs off her were earned.

The Little Lady Bucs found their offense in thrashing Mountaineer. They hammered out 23 hits, and had help from six errors an eight walks.

Buckhannon tallied a solo run in the first frame, three in the third, four in the fourth and fifth, three in the sixth and four in the seventh.

Taylor Spratt, Perkins and Alexis Cannady had four hits apiece, with Katarah Linger banging out three, Kimble, Avery Lantz and Kendal Currence rapping two each, and Alyssa Abel and Ashley McKinnon each belting one.

Spratt had a double and triple, and Perkins and Abel each had a triple.

Kimble hurled the distance in the circle, allowing 13 hits, walking seven and whiffing three. Only four of the 11 runs off her were earned.

The win snapped a seven-game losing skid, putting their record at 2-11 going into Tuesday evening’s contest with Taylor County at Grafton. They will entertain Barrackville Thursday.
