Softball Lady ‘Cats win final two games on Florida spring break trip


AUBURNDALE (Fla.) – Two solid pitching performances gave the West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcat softball team a pair of wins on their final day in Florida Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Bobcats gave up just one run in the two victories ending a four-game slide.

Abigail O’Shields pitched a complete game, five-hit shutout in a 3-0 victory over Bentley in Saturday’s first game while Hannah Hudson went the distance in a 4-1 victory over Stonehill in the second outing on Saturday.

The two wins gave head coach Steve Warner’s squad a 12-6 record.

Wesleyan scored all the runs they needed in the bottom of the fourth inning for O’Shields.

Destiny Alvarado hit a two-run double scoring Paije Bragg and Kennedy Cowart.

Alli Robinson iced the game for the Lady ‘Cats with a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Wesleyan outhit Bentley by a 7-5 margin.

Kiley Turner led the offense with two hits.

O’Shields improved to 3-1 for her efforts.

In the contest with Stonehill the two teams battled to a 0-0 deadlock after four innings of action.

Wesleyan finally got on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth with a four-run outburst.

Grace Smith started the scoring with a one-run single and Cowart continued it with another one-run single to make it a 2-0 contest.

Shelby Kennedy reached on an error allowing Taylor Swartz to score and Alvarado wrapped up the scoring with a one-run double that brought home Cowart.

Stonehill scored their lone run in the bottom of the fifth on a one-run single by Hannah Ricker.

Wesleyan outhit Stonehill by a 7-5 margin.

Brooke Clark and Smith paced the offense with two hits apiece.

The Lady ‘Cats will return to action this Saturday when they visit Fairmont State for a doubleheader in their Mountain East Conference opener.

First pitch of the twin bill slated for 1 p.m.
