BUCKHANNON – The West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcat softball team picked up a pair of convincing doubleheader sweeps earlier this week to run their winning streak to six games.

On Monday at Culpepper Field, the Lady ‘Cats hosted Alderson Broaddus and won both games, 6-1 and 4-1.

Then on Wednesday, they visited the Davis & Elkins Senators and  took both contests by 14-1 and 7-1 scores.

In Monday’s first contest with ABU, Wesleyan struck first with a two-run double to centerfield by Molly Osborne for a 2-0 lead.

Alderson Broaddus scored their lone run in the top of the third to make it a 2-1 game, but Kiley Turner hit a one-run single in the bottom of the fifth to extend the Wesleyan lead to 3-1.

Wesleyan added three insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Brooke Clark hit a one-run single, Grace Smith dropped down a sacrifice bunt to bring home a run and Lauryn King hit a one-run single to give Wesleyan their 6-1 lead.

Wesleyan had 11 hits in the win with Kennedy Cowart getting three and Clark and Turner two each.

Hannah Hudson improved her record to 3-0 for the Lady ‘Cats.

She pitched a complete game allowing one earned run on six hits while striking out six.

Game two saw Alderson Broaddus take a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning after scoring an unearned run.

Clark gave Wesleyan the lead with a two-run single in the bottom of the fifth and Osborne made it a 4-1 game in the bottom of the sixth with a ground out RBI.

Cowart led Wesleyan’s six-hit attack with two hits.

Abagail O’Shields evened her record to 2-2 in a complete-game effort.

She didn’t give up an earned run and allowed just two hits while striking out five.

The Battlers fell to 1-15 on the season.

In Wednesday’s first game with Davis & Elkins, it was all West Virginia Wesleyan.

Turner hit a three-run home run in the top of the first for Wesleyan and there was no looking back for the Lady Cats.

Smith and King each knocked in a run for Wesleyan in the bottom of the second upping the Lady ‘Cat lead to 5-0.

King, Turner and Bella Posey each knocked in a run for Wesleyan in the top of the fourth and the inning was highlighted by Kelley Bourne’s two-run home run as the Lady ‘Cats took an 11-0 advantage.

Paije Bragg, Taylor Swartz and Turner each knocked in a run for Wesleyan in the top of the fifth making it a 14-0 game.

Davis & Elkins avoided the shutout with four runs in the bottom of the fifth, including getting a three-run home run from Maddie Lavelle, but the game was still called after the fifth was concluded on the mercy rule.

Wesleyan collected 13 hits with King, Tuner and Osborne each getting two.

Hudson hiked her record to 4-0 and she twirled all five innings allowing four runs on five hits.

The nightcap saw Wesleyan take a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Clark scored on a fielding error.

Davis & Elkins tied it in the bottom of the fourth with a run, but Wesleyan answered right back when Clark scored on another Senator error giving the Lady ‘Cats a 2-1 lead.

Wesleyan put the game away in the top of the sixth inning with five runs.

Posey, Bourne and Osborne each knocked in a run and Clark hit a two-run home run for the scoring.

Davis & Elkins dropped to 7-7 on the season.

Wesleyan improved to 7-3 on the year.

They will face West Virginia State today in a doubleheader beginning at noon and then face Charleston Sunday in a twin bill starting at 2 p.m.
