Softball Lady Bucs suffer losses to Petersburg and Philip Barbour

PHILIPPI – It was a pair of games that Buckhannon-Upshur head softball coach Levi Bender would probably just rather forget.

His Lady Bucs committed 10 errors in a 12-5 road setback to Petersburg on Saturday and then they lost another road clash, an 8-4 decision, to Philip Barbour on Monday after holding a 4-0 lead.

The pair of losses left his squad with a 13-10 record.

In Saturday’s action, just five of Petersburg’s 12 runs were earned.

The Lady Bucs were down by a 7-0 score before denting the scoreboard in the top of the fourth.

Brooklyn Bryant hit a one-run double and Brooklyn Robinson scored on a wild pitch to account for the scoring.

Following a Petersburg run in the bottom of the fourth that made it an 8-2 game the Lady Bucs closed it to 8-5 with a trio of runs in the top of the fifth.

Shelby McDaniels hit a one-run single, Alli Robinson plopped a single into left field that scored Audrey Gaudet and Alyssa Rohr to close the gap to three.

Petersburg though put four runs on the board in the bottom of the sixth to secure the win.

The Lady Bucs had nine hits with Alli Robinson and Bryant each getting two.

Ciara Melton started the game and suffered the loss going three innings while Rohr pitched the final three innings.

Petersburg improved to 23-2 with the win.

In Monday’s outing, errors continued to be a problem.

Buckhannon-Upshur only committed three, but just four of the eight Philip Barbour runs were earned.

The Lady Bucs opened up a 4-0 lead against the Lady Colts with a pair of runs in the top of the first and second innings.

Alli Robinson hit into a fielder’s choice that scored Rohr and Gaudet cracked a double that plated Robinson in the top of the first and Morgan Parsons and Rohr scored on a misplayed ball on a pop fly by McDaniels in the top of the second.

Unfortunately for the Lady Bucs, they wouldn’t score again.

Philip Barbour tied the game with four runs in their half of the second inning and then pushed across four more in the bottom of the fifth for the 8-4 win.

Rohr had two of the five hits for the Lady Bucs in the loss.

She also absorbed the loss in a complete-game effort.

She gave up four earned runs on seven hits while fanning five.

The Lady Bucs were scheduled to play on the road at Elkins on Tuesday.

They will return to action today when they visit Preston at 4:30 p.m.
