Softball Lady Bucs split action with Elkins and Robert C. Byrd

TENNERTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Buc softball team split a pair of games recently.

Last Saturday at home, they lost a 16-10 decision to Elkins but rebounded to beat Robert C. Byrd on the road Tuesday by a 4-3 score.

The split left Levi Bender’s squad with a 5-4 record.

In Saturday’s game with Elkins, the Lady Bucs found themselves down by a 11-0 score after 4 ½ innings of play.

The Lady Bucs got back into the game with a six-run bottom of the fifth inning.

Kayli Curry hit a one-run double and later scored on an error, Jansen Kimble hit a three-run triple and Kennedy Samargo hit a one-run single to account for the scoring making it an 11-6 game.

Elkins scored one more in the top of the sixth and four more in the top of the seventh upping their lead to 16-6.

The Lady Bucs had a four-run seventh inning to close it to 16-10.

Robin Ball, Kimble, Samargo and McKinley Bonnett each knocked in a run for the Lady Bucs.

The Lady Bucs had seven hits with Kimble leading the way with two hits and four RBI’s.

Kimble suffered the loss in the circle going 4 2/3 innings.

She gave up nine earned runs on 11 hits and struck out six.

In Tuesday’s road game with the Eagles, the Lady Bucs were behind by a 2-0 score after three innings of play.

The Lady Bucs got on the board in the top of the fourth when McDaniels hit a solo home run making it a 2-1 game.

They tied it a 2-2 in the top of the fifth when Brooklyn Robinson tripled and came home on a single by Kennedy Samargo.

Robert C. Byrd took the lead back in the bottom of the fifth with a run at 3-2.

Buckhannon-Upshur tied the game again with a run in the top of the sixth inning when McDaniels drew a lead-off walk, stole second and scored on a two-out error.

The Lady Bucs scored the game-winner in the top of the seventh when Alyssa Rohr, in her first game back this season, hit a two-out single, moved to third on a double by McDaniels and scored on a single from Ball.

The Eagles put runners on first and second in the bottom of the seventh, but Kimble forced Mckenzie Lamm to ground out for the final out of the game preserving the one-run win.

The Lady Bucs had six hits with McDaniels leading the way with two.

Kimble pitched all seven innings to improve her record to 5-3.

She gave up just one earned run on 11 hits while striking out four.

The Lady Bucs were scheduled to play Grafton Wednesday and Lincoln Thursday.

They will wrap up play in the Big 10 Conference Tournament today and then host University on Monday.
