Alli Robinson of the Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Bucs takes a cut at a pitch during their Big 10 Conference clash Saturday afternoon. Robinson had three hits and knocked in a run, but the Lady Bucs dropped a 9-7 decision.

TENNERTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur softball team had to keep plugging away at a Lincoln lead here Saturday afternoon in Big 10 Conference action, but while they never gave up they were never able to take a lead in a 9-7 setback.

The Lady Bucs were their own worst enemy at times as well as six errors led to five of the nine runs being unearned.

Buckhannon-Upshur dug themselves an early hole giving up four runs in the top of the first to fall behind by a 4-0 score.

That score held until the bottom of the fourth when the Lady Bucs finally broke through and scored a run when Brooklyn Robinson scored on a single by Alyssa Rohr and an error on the play to make it a 4-1 contest.

An Audrey Gaudet single that scored Alli Robinson made it a 4-2 contest in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Lincoln scored a run in the top of the sixth, but the Lady Bucs kept chipping away at the lead and made it a 5-4 game in the bottom of the sixth inning following a ground out RBI by Hailey Thompson and a one-run double by Alli Robinson.

The Lady Bucs had their hearts broken though by Lincoln’s Madilyn Andrick who hit a grand slam in top of the seventh to treat Lincoln to a 9-4 advantage.

Just like in the previous innings, the Lady Bucs didn’t quit.

They made a game of it in the bottom of the seventh with three runs.
