Softball Lady Bobcats to host two winter camps


BUCKHANNON – West Virginia Wesleyan head softball coach Steve Warner has announced the dates for his annual winter softball clinics.

The first camp is scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 26 and the second camp is slated for Saturday, Feb. 8.

The Jan. 26 clinic will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and is open for all players from 5th-12th grade.

The cost of the camp is $50 for both hitting and pitching and just $40 for hitting.

Same day registration will begin at 12:30 p.m. in Rockefeller Center.

The hitting clinic will last from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and the pitching clinic will go from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The second clinic on Feb. 8 will include hitting concepts and drills, defense drills, infield/outfield work and catching and pitching instruction.

It is for players from 5th to 12th grade as well at a cost of $80 that includes a t-shirt (guaranteed only with pre-registration) and lunch.

Same day pre-registration is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. in Rockefeller Center.

Introductions and stretching will commence between 9:45 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. with an emphasis on base running, bunting and pitching from 10:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

Campers will have lunch from noon to 12:45 p.m. and then work in two groups on hitting and defensive work from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Campers are instructed to bring a glove, shorts/t-shirt, sweats, tennis shoes and bat/batting gloves and helmet.

Pitchers are also encouraged to bring a personal catcher.

The camp is under the direction of West Virginia Wesleyan head coach Steve Warner, who is entering his 29th season with the Lady Bobcats.

Warner has won 22 conference titles in his 28 seasons at the helm of the Lady Bobcat program and took his team to the NCAA Division II World Series in 2017 where they finished third in the country.

His overall coaching record is 1063-389-1.

He will be joined by his staff of assistant coaches Bob Allen, Michaela Hamilton and Sara Scoone.

Special guests for the clinics include Burgettstown High School head coach Mark Deer, pitching great David "Bimbo" Vallina, and former Lady Bobcat All-Americans and Mountain East Conference Players of the Years Brooklyn Waddell and Tori Pogue.

Early registration is encouraged for both camps as spots will fill up very quickly.
