GLENVILLE – The West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcat softball team picked up two more wins on Sunday in neutral site games at Glenville State College.
The Lady Bobcats defeated Mercyhurst by a 4-2 score and then downed Shepherd by a 10-4 count.
The two wins improved their record to 3-1 on the season.
Destiny Alvarado put the Lady Bobcats on the scoreboard first against Mercyhurst with a two-run double in the bottom of the first.
Alli Robinson upped the Wesleyan lead to 3-0 in the bottom of third when she scored on a wild pitch.
Mercyhurst scored a run in the top of fifth but Wesleyan responded with a run in the bottom of the sixth when Kiley Turner hit a one-run double to right center.
Mercyhurst added a run in the top of the second to wrap up the scoring.
Both teams had seven hits.
Wesleyan was led by Robinson and Grace Smith with two hits apiece.
Hannah Hudson improved to 2-0 with a complete-game effort.
She gave up two earned runs on seven hits while striking out four.
Wesleyan recorded another win against Shepherd as they beat them by a 7-4 score on Saturday.
The Rams scored first with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first.
Wesleyan deadlocked the game with two runs in the top of the fourth on an Alvarado two-run single.
The Lady Bobcats erupted for five runs in the top of the fifth for a 7-2 lead.
Cowart had a two-run single and Smith, Alvarado and Lauren Niglio each knocked in a run for Wesleyan in the inning.
Shepherd scored a run in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings to close it to a 7-4 contest.
Wesleyan put the game away with three runs in the top of the seventh Molly Osbourne his a one-run double, Niglio scored on a passed ball and Brooke Clark hit a one-run single to account for the scoring.
Both teams collected 11 hits in the contest.
Alvarado led the offense with three hits while Niglio had two.
Ciana Bowen pitched the final 6 1/3 innings to pick up the win.
She gave up two earned runs on nine hits while striking out one.
The Lady Bobcats will now embark on their spring break tour and will return to action in Florida this Saturday against University of the Sciences and Concordia (NY) College.
