Soccer Lady ‘Cats lose on golden goal to Notre Dame in MEC Tournament

SOUTH EUCLID (Ohio) – The West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcats and the Notre Dame College Falcons have a short but storied rivalry when it comes to the pitch, and Monday’s Mountain East Conference tournament opener just added to that lore.

Unfortunately for the Lady ‘Cats, it won’t be a memory that they look back fondly on as they dropped a 1-0 decision in overtime to the Falcons.

Ellie Gess had the golden goal for the Falcons.

Just three minutes into the second overtime period, a corner by Kata Josipovic was sent into the box. Several players jumped to gain possession, but once it fell to the turf, Gess came away with the ball and scored in the lower right corner of the net for the win.

Both teams owned four shots-on-goal while Notre Dame held a 6-3 edge in corner kicks.

Wesleyan was guilty of 24 fouls while Notre Dame was called for 10.

Ally Moore made three saves for Wesleyan while Jordan Paslaqua made four for Notre Dame

Notre Dame, now 5-2-2, will visit Frostburg State today in a semifinal match.

Wesleyan saw their season come to a close with a 4-3-2 record.
