Soccer Lady ‘Cats break into win column with 6-0 shutout over Glenville St.

GLENVILLE – Audrey Barber scored two goals and added an assist to help the West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcats break into the win column with a dominating 6-0 victory over the homestanding Glenville State Lady Pioneers Thursday evening at I.L & Sue Morris Stadium.

Following an unexpected 0-2 start to the season, the Lady Bobcats secured their first win of the season at the right time as the Lady Pioneer contest was the Mountain East Conference opener for Wesleyan.

Glenville State is starting their second full season of soccer.

Kayla Fay put the Lady Bobcats on the board in the 16th minute after finding the back of the net following a pass from Maddie LaPole.

Makatlyn Tucker made it 2-0 five minutes later with a goal with the assist going to Barber.

Just three minutes later, Barber scored her first goal of the game with the assist going to Haelly Ramirez to up the Wesleyan lead to 3-0.

Wesleyan put in one more before the half ended as Ramirez scored with the assist going to Danielle Jones.

Barber beat Glenville State keeper Morgan Smailes with a shot in the 50th minute to increase the Wesleyan lead to 5-0.

LaPole was credited with her second assist of the game.

LaPole wrapped up the scoring in the 61st minute with a goal after accepting a pass from Tucker.

Wesleyan owned a 13-1 lead in shots-on-goal and a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.

The Lady Bobcats were called for seven fouls while Glenville State was guilty of three.

Chelsea Hubner played 79 minutes in the net for Wesleyan and made one save while Bailey Heubi played the final 11 minutes and didn’t see a shot.

Smailes made six saves for Glenville State.

Glenville State dropped to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in the MEC.

Wesleyan improved to 1-2 overall and 1-0 in the MEC.

The Lady Bobcats were slated to face Charleston Sunday on the road.

They will return to the pitch Wednesday when they host Concord at 7 p.m. in a MEC contest.
