TENNERTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Buc soccer team came up just short in their non-conference outing with the Parkersburg Big Reds Saturday afternoon at Freal “Red” Crites Memorial Stadium.
The Lady Bucs dropped a 3-2 decision.
Parkersburg scored first when Jenna Carpenter sent a cross from the left side to Payton Harvey who put in a shot to the back post in the 13th minute of the game.
The Lady Bucs deadlocked the game just two minutes later when Cameron Zuliani cleaned up a corner kick and sent it out to Maggie Queen at the penalty kick spot and Queen fired it to the back of the net making it a 1-1 contest.
The game remained tied at 1-1 at the half.
Carpenter gave the Big Reds a 2-1 lead in the 50th minute on a penalty kick and then Madison Spears gave Parkersburg a 3-1 advantage in the 68th minute when she scored an unassisted goal from 20 yards out to the left corner
Queen brought the Lady Bucs to within one with four minutes remaining when she made a penalty kick, but B-U wasn’t able to get that game-tying goal.
The Lady Bucs owned a 9-4 lead in shots-on-goal and a 6-5 margin in corner kicks.
Kiki Arbogast turned away one shot for the Lady Bucs in net.
The Lady Bucs (1-1) were slated to play Preston on Tuesday.
They will return to action Thursday as they visit North Marion at 6 p.m.
They are scheduled to host George Washington Saturday at 11 a.m.
