Soccer Lady Bucs post 5-0 shutout win against Lincoln

TENNERTON – Four different players got into the scoring act for the Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Buc soccer team as they controlled play from start to finish with a 5-0 victory over the visiting Lincoln Cougars Thursday evening at Ted Crites Alumni Field at Tom Hasbrouck Stadium.

Lincoln didn’t get a shot off on goal and struggled to get anything going and the ball only crossed midfield a few times during the entire game.

Cameron Zuliani got the ball rolling for the Lady Bucs with a goal in the eighth minute when she lofted a ball past the Lincoln keeper after a rebound of a Cougar defender.

Iris Tenney made it a 2-0 game in the 34th minute with a penalty kick.

The 2-0 score would stand at the intermission.

Maggie Nolte made it a 3-0 contest with a shot from 15 yards out to the low left corner of the net in the 56th minute to up the Lady Buc lead to 3-0.

Leigh Ann Bennett was credited with the assist.

Tenney scored her second goal of the game with a shot from the right side to the keeper’s near post in the 66th minute after accepting a pass from Brooklyn Maxwell.

With four minutes remaining, Audrey Gaudet wrapped up the scoring with a goal with the assist going to Madison Ware.

“Our girls looked really good and did some very nice things,” remarked Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Jackie Zuliani. “We were able to mix things up a bit and get some people in different positions. We have improved and keep improving on our possession and working the ball offensively, but there  is a  big problem we have been dealing with game after game and that is we simply can’t score.”

Despite the five goals, the Lady Bucs put 26 shots-on-goal.

“We do a great job of putting the ball where it needs to be, but can’t find the back of the net,” stated Zuliani. “We make keepers look really good most of the time because we shoot it directly at them. We keep stressing the importance of getting your head up and seeing where to place the ball. It isn’t always about drilling your shot. We are confident in the girls’ ability and we know we have plenty of girls who can shoot, we see it in practice every day, but we need to show it in games.”

The win was the second straight shutout for the Lady Bucs as they improved their record to 4-2 overall and 3-0 in the Big 10 Conference.

They will play again on the road Tuesday when they travel to Charleston for a non-conference game with the Capital Cougars.

Kick-off is slated for 5 p.m.
