TENNERTON – Laikelyn Leggett tallied two goals to lead the Buckhannon-Upshur soccer Lady Bucs to a convincing 5-1 victory over the Preston Knights in a Big 10 Conference outing Tuesday evening.
The Lady Bucs fell behind by a 1-0 score when Isabella Stahl found the back of the net on a breakaway with the assist going to Hailee Conn.
The lead was short-lived for Preston as Leggett teamed up with Cameron Zuliani for the first two Buckhannon-Upshur goals.
On both goals, Zuliani sent in corner kicks that Leggett buried to the back of the net in the 17th of the 23rd minute to stake the Lady Bucs to a 2-1 lead.
That score held at the half.
Zuliani got into the scoring act after playing a cross from Catherine Oliveto and slipping a shot past the Preston keeper in the 58th minute to up the Buckhannon-Upshur lead to 3-1.
Just three minutes later, Lexi Kelley and Maggie Queen hooked up on a give-and-go as Kelley scored treating Buckhannon-Upshur to a 4-1 lead.
Kennedy Samargo wrapped up the Buckhannon-Upshur scoring with an unassisted goal in the 67th minute.
The Lady Bucs had 12 shot-on-goal and five corner kicks.
The win improved the Lady Bucs to 2-1 overall and 2-0 in the Big 10 Conference.
They will visit the North Marion Huskies today at 6 p.m. and then tentatively have George Washington scheduled for a home match Saturday at 11 a.m.
