TENNERTON – Cameron Zuliani had goals in each half to lead the Buckhannon-Upshur soccer Lady Bucs to a 2-0 home win over the Greenbrier East Spartans Saturday morning in a non-conference clash at Ted Crites Alumni Field at Tom Hasbrouck Stadium.
“Cameron had a solid offensive game,” noted Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Jackie Zuliani. “She could have maybe had six goals. She had some great looks and is drilling the ball very well.”
Zuliani played a deflection from Miranda Greene and came onto the ball and found the back of the net past Greenbrier East keeper Larah Ratliff in the 24th minute for her first goal.
The second score was an unassisted goal in the second half.
She obtained a loose ball on the outside left of the field and finished with a blast past Ratliff.
The defense did the rest of the work pitching the shutout.
“We played well overall,” stated Zuliani. “We changed some things up on top. We pulled Miranda Greene from defense to striker and put Allison Andrew back on defense and Iris Tenney as defending midfielder. Our defense continues to improve with Kennedy Samargo and Laikelyn Leggett leading the way. They all did well for us.”
The Lady Bucs owned a 10-3 lead in shots-on-goal and a 9-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Kyndal Davis made three saves for the Lady Bucs in net while Ratliff stopped seven shots.
“The girls played hard and we are still working on getting things together with two starters out with injuries. We need to clean some basic things up. We know how to play soccer, we just need everyone playing hard the entire 80 minutes.”
The win improved the Lady Bucs to 8-2-1 on the season.
They will visit Robert C. Byrd today at 8 p.m. in a Big 10 Conference outing and then visit Morgantown Thursday at 6 p.m. for a non-conference clash.
