Soccer Lady ‘Bobcats defeat Davis & Elkins in regular-season finale


ELKINS – The West Virginia Wesleyan soccer Lady Bobcats will have plenty of momentum heading into the MEC post-season tournament after a 1-0 victory over the Davis & Elkins Senators Sunday afternoon in a conference contest at Nuttall Field.

Wesleyan ended the regular season on a six-game winning streak where they outscored their opponents by a 28-0 score as all six wins were shutouts.

The two teams battled to a scoreless 0-0 tie after 45 minutes of action.

The lone goal of the game occurred in the 65th minute when Haelly Ramirez found the back of the net.

Taylor Maucere was credited with the assist.

Davis & Elkins was never able to get off a shot the rest of the way as the Wesleyan defense and keeper Chelsea Hubner kept the shutout on the scoreboard.

Hubner made three saves for Wesleyan.

Wesleyan owned a 5-3 lead in shots-on-goal while corner kicks were even at 2-2.

The Lady ‘Cats were guilty of 11 fouls while Davis & Elkins was called for 15.

Davis & Elkins ended their year with a 7-8-2 record overall and a 6-7-1 mark in the MEC.

Wesleyan finished 12-6 overall and 10-4 in the MEC to place second in the South Division.

They were slated to play Charleston, the third seed in the South Division Tuesday at 1 p.m.

The winner of that contest will play Concord Friday at 1 p.m.
