Soccer ‘Cats get blanked by Davis & Elkins, 2-0

ELKINS - The West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats suffered a defeat at the hands of the Davis & Elkins Senators last Friday at Nuttall Field.

It was a long-fought battle for the Bobcats, but the Senators pulled ahead late in the second half of the game with a pair of goals for a 2-0 victory.

The Bobcats initially came out with a strong presence against the Senators, but Davis & Elkins answered the challenge and controlled play the rest of the opening half but neither team managed to find the goal in the first half.

Lauri Vasa registered Wesleyan’s only shot of the match in the 42nd minute.

The game became a heated match, especially in the second half resulting in five yellow cards being issued (six overall in the game).

The Senators picked up three yellow cards while Wesleyan was carded twice in the second half.

D&E’s rapid-style attack in the second half kept the Wesleyan defense busy defending and unable to mount much of an attack.

The Senators broke the tie in the 84th minute when David Jara played a ball to the middle to the left side of the field to Anderson Marroquin who won a one-on-one battle with Wesleyan keeper Sahil Dhunnookchand.

The Senators added an insurance goal in the 87th minute of the right foot of Daniel Cerezo with the assist going to Marroquin.

Wesleyan was outshot by a 7-0 margin and trailed in corner kicks by a 7-3 margin.

Dhunnookchand made four saves for Wesleyan while Jeremy Coste didn’t see a shot.

The Senators improved to 4-1 on the season while Wesleyan dropped to 2-3.

Wesleyan will be back in action Friday at West Liberty for a 7 p.m. start.
