Bryer Ketterman’s goal at the buzzer gives Buckhannon-Upshur a tie with Lewis County

TENNERTON – Sophomore Bryer Ketterman made it a Senior Night to remember for the Buckhannon-Upshur Buccaneer soccer team here Tuesday night against the Lewis County Minutemen at Ted Crites Alumni Field at Tom Hasbrouck Stadium.

On a night when Buckhannon-Upshur’s four seniors were honored – Mark Burnside, Coleman Shreve, Alek Seech and Cam Ware –  it was the sophomore that gave the Bucs an amazing 1-1 tie with the Minutemen.

Down 1-0, Ketterman deflected the ball in to the near post for a goal as time expired.

“Time expired right when the ball went over the line,” explained Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Mike Donato.

Ryan Hurst was credited with the assist.

“What an exciting end to our home schedule,” Donato remarked. “We spent most of the game chasing after that goal.”

Lewis County scored their goal in the ninth minute when Anthony Atchison took control of a ball misplayed by the B-U defense and dribbled it around Buckhannon-Upshur keeper Logan Kelley for the goal.

“We gave up that early goal and that had us rushing play for most of the night,” Donato said. “Once we started to settle down and try to get into a flow of the game, we played a lot better.”

Buckhannon-Upshur controlled the stat sheet as they owned a 9-2 lead in shots-on-goal and had an 8-4 margin in corner kicks.

The Bucs were guilty of 10 fouls while Lewis County was called for five.

Kelley made one save for the Bucs while Ethan Haught made eight for Lewis County.

“I commend our team for not giving up and earning the draw,” concluded Donato. “I also want to thank our seniors who we honored tonight for all they've contributed to our program over the years.”

The draw left the Bucs with a 6-9-3 record overall and a 5-3-2 mark in the Big 10 Conference.

They are slated to play Elkins Thursday night.

They will concluded their regular season Saturday at Philip Barbour.

The Bucs will finish a game that was postponed back on Oct. 2 at Philip Barbour at 8 a.m.

The game will resume where it was stopped – in the 35th minute with the Buccaneers leading 3-2.
