TENNERTON — Buckhannon-Upshur High School boys’ soccer team lost to Bridgeport Tuesday night October 5, 2021. Bridgeport won with a score of 3-1.
Josh Jackson, of the Bridgeport Indians, scored first in the 27th minute with a header off of a corner kick. Jackson’s teammate, Burton Khosa, scored in the 48th minute from a loose ball outside of the penalty area, then shot over the goalkeeper to the near post.
The Buccaneers’ Zach Calef-Boring scored the only goal for Buckhannon-Upshur. In the 62nd minute, Christian Dowell assisted Calef-Boring with a through-ball up the middle of the field, which finished on the far post.
“Unfortunately, we couldn’t cap off the evening with goals we deserved based on our play tonight. Our guys played hard and possessed the ball well, and for the most part, defended well. We’ve just got ourselves caught where the few mistakes we’ve been making in the course of the game,” Coach Mike Donato commented after the game. “We’ve allowed the other team to capitalize on those mistakes. We have done some good things and our young guys are starting to progress, so once we get things clicking again, then we will be okay as we start to prepare for the post-season in the coming weeks.”
