Soccer Bucs fall to Philip Barbour

TENNERTON — The Buckhannon-Upshur High School boys’ soccer team suffered a loss to the Philip Barbour Colts in a home game on Thursday, September 30, 2021.

The final score was 2 – 0 with the Colts for the win. Philip Barbour’s Trenton Whited sent a free kick from a foul in the right corner to the back post header for the first Colts’ goal in the 58th minute.

At the 64th minute mark, Grant Dodisman made the second goal, sealing the win for the Colts with a penalty kick that was saved by the Bucs’ Dalton Auvil. Dodisman then cleaned up the rebound for the goal. Auvil had eight saves for the Buccaneers.

Coach Mike Donato stated, “Outside of two fouls, which the Colts took advantage of, I felt we played a good game overall. We made some key stops in the midfield and did a good job of maintaining possession and getting the ball in our attacking third. Unfortunately, we couldn’t overcome our own mistakes and get a goal on the board. We were sure that if we could get a goal early, then we could have maintained control and kept that lead, but we just couldn’t find the back of the net tonight. Dalton had a great game, making a save on a penalty kick and making some key saves in the run of play.”

The Bucs will play again on Tuesday, October 5, against Bridgeport on the Buckhannon-Upshur High School field.
