TENNERTON — The Buckhannon-Upshur High School boys’ soccer team played hard for their win over Elkins High School on Tuesday. Elkins couldn’t seem to get on the board and the Buccaneers claimed victory with a final score of 3-0.
Coach Mike Donato noted, “This was a great win against a tough rival in Elkins. Injuries again left us shorthanded, particularly in goal with Dalton Auvil recovering from a shoulder injury from Saturday, so we had to call on Dirk Riley to step in. I asked him and a few others to step up big for us tonight and they did exactly that.”
B-U’s Caden Andrick made the first two goals of the game, both in the second half. The first goal was assisted by Ethan Dowling with a through ball, which was dribbled in and shot at the far post. The second, also a Dowling assist, was dribbled from the left side and shot to the far post.
With two minutes left in the game, Julien Larcher assisted Zach Calef-Boring with a through ball that dribbled in from the right side and also shot at the far post.
“It was great to watch this team gain the confidence they’ll need going into sectionals next week. Right now, our goal is to get healthy and stay sharp,” Coach Donato said proudly.
