Soccer Bucs down RCB in final scrimmage, 3-2

TENNERTON – Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Mike Donato put this soccer Bucs through their last scrimmage of the year on Wednesday, defeating Robert C. Byrd by a 3-2 score.

Robert C. Byrd came to the rescue of Donato after Bridgeport, the original opponent, canceled on the Bucs at the last minute.

“This served as a great final tune up for us,” remarked Donato. “I can’t thank RCB enough for filling in last minute after our cancellation.”

Donato used the scrimmage to get a final look at his Buccaneers as they open their regular season tonight.

“We had a slow start but that was kind of expected as we made some adjustments based on what we saw at the Brooke scrimmages,” stated Donato. “Once we got a feel for the game we played great possession and made some great defensive stops. We also put a lot of our younger players on some high pressure situations against their varsity players. They stepped in and held their own even creating a few quality chances.”

The Bucs will visit Ripley tonight at 6:30 p.m. for their season opener.

They will then have their home opener Tuesday against sectional opponent Morgantown at 5:30 p.m.
