TENNERTON — The Buckhannon-Upshur High School Buccaneers boys’ soccer team hosted the Robert C. Byrd Eagles Thursday, September 23, 2021.
“Once again we found ourselves in a situation we’ve been in more than I’d like, and that’s trailing at the half,” Coach Mike Donato stated. “We definitely had the run of possession, but made too many mistakes in the first half and allowed RCB to get the early lead. As the second half went on, I feel we did a good job of holding possession and wearing them down, which created several quality chances for us, that thankfully we were able to convert on two of them. Hopefully we can continue to build on the past two games and practices, knowing we’ve got a tough stretch of games forthcoming.”
Alex Bovino scored the first and only goal of the game for the Eagles with a hard shot to the far post in the 28th minute. The Bucs’ Caden Andrick shot from 20 yards away from the middle of the field at the 54-minute mark for the first goal for B-UHS. In the 74th minute, Zach Calef-Boring rebounded off the opposition’s goalkeeper and finished at the far post, breaking the tie, and winning the game for the Buccaneers.
