TENNERTON — The Buckhannon-Upshur High School boys’ soccer team hosted the University High School Hawks for a no point game in sectional playoffs on Tuesday. The Buccaneers had a few good opportunities for a goal, but the Hawks seemed to stop each attempt.

Coach Mike Donato exclaimed, “This was a great experience for our younger players. These guys came in tonight very confident after the last few days of great practices. I was very proud how we worked the ball and defended as a team. We definitely did enough to win the game in regulation, but we just couldn’t find the back of the net.”

Dalton Auvil was a huge, key player to have in his first game back, making some great saves in the second half and coming up big in the shootout. “We walked through that process last thing in practice Monday, and I was very pleased how that went. You never want to leave a game to kicks from the mark, but I knew if it came to that our guys would come up big,” added Coach Donato.

Because the Buccaneers won the end shootout, they will advance to the Sectional Championship against Bridgeport at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 21. Congratulations and good luck to the B-UHS Bucs soccer team!
