Soccer Bobcats blank Senators in regular-season finale, 1-0


ELKINS – Lauri Vasa scored the lone goal of the game in the 85th minute to treat the West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats to a 1-0 Mountain East Conference victory over Davis & Elkins in their regular season finale at Nuttall Field.

Vasa’s made an inside run and took a pass from Joshua Tenney for the game-winner.

Wesleyan held a 5-3 lead in shots-on-goal but trailed in corner kicks by a 6-2 margin.

In a physical game, Wesleyan was guilty of 15 fouls while Davis & Elkins was called for 20.

Wesleyan keeper Jeremy Collins made three saves while Davis & Elkins Everton Carvalho keeper made four saves.

Wesleyan improved to 12-5-1 overall and 11-4-1 in the MEC.

Davis & Elkins closed out their season with an 8-9 mark overall and a 7-9 record in the MEC.

Wesleyan earned the third seed overall in the MEC Tournament which begins today.

Wesleyan will visit the No. 2 seed Notre Dame in a semi-final match-up at 2 p.m. while fourth-seed Urbana and top-seed Charleston will square off in the other semi-final today at 3 p.m.

The championship game will be played Sunday at the highest remaining seed.
