Robin Ball lands on All-State Second Team

TENNERTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Bucs’ softball team put two players on the 2021 West Virginia Sportswriters Association All-State Softball team.

Junior Shelby McDaniels was given the highest honor by the WVSWA being named to the All-State First Team.

She was selected as a First Team utility player.

This honor comes three weeks after Big 10 Conference coaches voted her to mere Second Team All-Conference honors.

Junior infielder Robin Ball was also selected to the All-State Second Team as an infielder.

This also comes after she was only tabbed for Second Team All-Conference honors in the Big 10.

McDaniels led the Lady Bucs in batting with a .583 average collecting 36 hits in 66 at-bats with 14 doubles, one tripe and four home runs.

She had a team-best 27 RBIs in 18 games and scored a team-high 36 runs.

She struck out just five times in 72 plate appearances.

In limited work in the circle, she went 1-2 in 15 2/3 innings pitched with six appearances

Ball was second on the team in hitting with a .519 average getting 17 hits in 52 at-bats in 17 games.

She had 10 extra base hits – nine doubles and one triple.

She collected 19 RBI’s and scored 11 runs.

“Both players carried themselves as All-Staters all year,” noted Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Levi Bender. “They both performed on the field, in classroom and in the weight room. They also helped teammates became better leaders this season. It’s been a blast being a part of their journey and I can’t wait to see what they do this off-season and their senior years.”

Tayven Stephenson of St. Albans is captain of the First Team.

She is one of three St. Albans players to make it along with Kendal Stoffel and Jillian Holley.
