Seven Lady Bucs named to All-State Lacrosse Team; four earn First Team honors

TENNERTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Buc lacrosse team put seven players on the 2021 WVSLA Girls All-State team with four First Team All-State selections.

Earning First Team honors for the Lady Bucs were junior attacker Miranda Greene, junior midfielder Hannah Walton, junior defender Gaidian Adams and senior goalie Leah Crihfield.

Greene led the state in goals with 96 and points with 110. She was ranked 26th nationally in goals and 66th in points.

Greene also earned First Team honors in 2019 as a freshman. Her junior season was wiped out due to COVID.

Walton was second in the state in draw control wins at 85 percent, fourth in the state in ground balls with 61, eighth in the state in points with 44 and 10th in the state in goals with 35.

Adams was second in the state in ground balls with 77 from her defensive position.

Crihfield was second in the state in saves with 116 and second in goals against average with a 4.9 average.

Junior Kierra Arbogast was named to the WVSLA All-State Second Team as a midfielder.

She was eighth in the state in draw control wins at 36 percent, was 17th in the state in ground balls with 41, 18th in the state in goals with 27 and 21st in points with 31.

Kendall Defibaugh and Mashae Bowser were named to the Honorable Mention Team.

The freshman Defibaugh was selected as a midfielder while Bowser, a junior, was named to the team as a defender.

The Lady Bucs made it to the state semifinals and ended the year with a 13-4 record.

“I am very proud of all the girls,” remarked Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Jamie Greene. “It was a very long season as we started conditioning back in late January and making the playoffs put playing until early June. That gave all the girls a chance to get better and work hard. The girls making the All-State team did an excellent job in their positions leading the team to the playoffs. It shows hard work and teamwork by the girls pays off. They are already talking about next season and I can’t wait to see how far they go in 2022.”
