Senior center to try dinner Jan. 4

BUCKHANNON — The Upshur County Senior Center is adding to its existing menu of activities by trying out a first Friday of the month dinner.

The first dinner on Jan. 4 will be an evening meal at 5 p.m. Lunch will not be served on the first Friday of the month during the three-month trial period of January through March to see if the evening option is popular, according to director Sarah Campbell.

The idea came about to expand to the evening to reach a different segment of the senior population in Upshur County.

“Some of the people who qualify for our services might not be able to come here and get involved because their life situation is different,” she said.

While regular hours of the center are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday, on the first Friday of the month, the senior center will remain open until 6:30 p.m.

“Our goal is to see what those people are interested in having and how we can adapt to that to be able to serve as many people as possible,” Campbell said.

There is a recommended contribution for seniors age 60 or over for meals. For more information about the senior center, visit or follow Upshur County Senior Center on Facebook.
