Second-half run pushes Pioneers to 71-65 victory over ’Cats in MEC play

GLENVILLE — Glenville State used a 18-4 run over a six-minute stretch late in the second half to down West Virginia Wesleyan, 71-65, Saturday afternoon in Mountain East Conference play at the Waco Center.

The Bobcats (2-16, 2-10 MEC) led by six points, at 59-53, with 6:20 before the Pioneers went on their game-changing run to build an eight-point lead, at 71-63, with less than a minute to play.

Glenville State (3-14, 2-10 MEC) allowed just two field goals in the final seven minutes of play to earn the win.

Darhius Nunn had 21 points to lead Glenville State.

Brooks Ely had 15 points and Jon Dunmyer chipped in 14 points. Theo Brown had a team-high nine rebounds and Andrew Johnson tallied six assists.

Fred Brondsted connected on five 3-pointers and ended up with 17 points to lead Wesleyan.

Dusan Vicentic scored 12 points and Kam Cooper came off the bench to add 10 points and five rebounds, while  Luka Petrovic dished out eight assists.

The Bobcats will return home at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday to battle UVa.-Wise for a league encounter.
