MORGANTOWN – Buckhannon-Upshur senior guard Ryan Hurst joined special company when his Bucs battled the Morgantown Mohigans last Wednesday in the Region I Co-Final basketball game.

Hurst joined an elite group of just four other Buccaneers scoring his 1,000th point of his career.

Needing six points in the contest, he accomplished the feat with a lay-up in the second quarter with 5:55 left in the opening half.

For his career, Hurst scored 1,016 points.

That ranks him fourth overall in the history of Buckhannon-Upshur scoring passing Brian Swisher.

Terry Moore (1954-57) is the all-time leading scorer with 1,381 points while Mike Miller (1972-1974) is second with 1,237 points and Keith Wolverton (1981-84), current B-U assistant coach, is third with 1,159.

Hurst is now fourth with 1,016 while Swisher is fifth with 1,014 points.

“If I had let Ryan go, he probably would have gotten to the record a lot sooner,” said Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Travis Foster. “But that wouldn’t have been beneficial to the team this season. He managed to get to 1,000 points staying within our system. As our team captain, he made everyone else better on the floor, and when he made everyone else better, his game got better as well. No one works as hard as he does and I thought it was very special to see him score his 1,000th point after molding him the last three years.”
