Rt. 33 wreck sends man to hospital

BUCKHANNON — A two-vehicle wreck on Rt. 33 East sent one man to the hospital Monday shortly after noon.  The collision occurred just past mile marker 17 when a white Dodge Ram 1500 driven by Billy Ray Clark plowed into the back of a tractor trailer carrying a load of lumber for Richard Gessel Trucking.

The load was driven by William Gorman who told The Record Delta, “I was coming up the hill with my four-ways on when he ran right into me.”

The West Virginia State Police and Division of Natural Resources Police investigated the accident, assisted by Upshur County Sheriff’s Department.  Buckhannon Fire Department and several volunteer firefighters responded, as well as Upshur County EMS, who transported Clark to St. Joseph’s Hospital.

Clark reportedly did not see the big truck and stated, “There was a vehicle in front of me.  The vehicle moved out of the way and the next thing I know the truck was there.  I slammed on my brakes and ran into him.”

The wreck is still under investigation and no citations have been issued yet.
