BUCKHANNON — The former Buckhannon Rotary Club’s board members attended the Upshur County Board of Education meeting Tuesday night to distribute their final donations of funds raised by the club.
Administrators from each of the 10 Upshur County schools were present to receive the donations in check form. Principals and administrators were not exactly sure why they were asked to attend the meeting and had looks of astonishment on their faces when they opened envelopes with checks in the amount of $12,900 enclosed. Every elementary school in the county, as well as Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School, Buckhannon-Upshur High School and Fred Eberle Technical Center were recipients of the very generous gifts from Buckhannon Rotary. Former Buckhannon Rotary President Bob Kincaid stated, “There is no better way that I can think of than to invest in the future education of our children in our county and community.”
Rebecca Bowers-Call, Director of the Fred Eberle Technical Center, stated, “We are so very appreciative and will use the money to directly impact students and their Career Technical Education experiences. We will use the funds to continue the tradition Rotary has established of giving scholarships to students who further their Career Technical Education in some way.” Bowers-Call continued, “Additionally, we will use the money to continue improving our existing programs and new ones that are developed. We appreciate the Rotary so much!” Rock Cave Elementary School’s Principal Amanda Craig exclaimed, “Wow, wow, I am glad I am sitting down!” as she opened her check presented by the Rotary.
The room was full of laughter and chatter as the administrators of the county schools opened the checks so generously distributed by the Rotarians. These donations to all 10 of the county schools was the final disbursement of funds raised over the years by the former Buckhannon Rotary Club. The community sincerely appreciates the generosity the club has shown over the years. Follow the Record Delta for updates on the development of a new Rotary charter in Upshur County.
