BUCKHANNON — Buckhannon-Upshur High School (B-UHS) star athlete Cadence Vincent has become a more than familiar name in Upshur County. The swimming prodigy has officially signed on with the University of Alabama, which she verbally committed to last winter.
Vincent has garnered a list of notable accomplishments that includes being named Big 10 Conference Girls Swimmer of the Year three separate times, being named USA All-American Swim Scholastic Team in 2021-2022, holding WVSSAC Girls Swimming State Records in the 50 and 100 Freestyle and holding a litany of B-UHS school records in the 50, 100, 200, 500 Freestyle and now a future member of the Crimson Tide Swim program.
Outlined by her commitment to excellence and a strong work ethic, Vincent is looking to finish off her last season strong, citing time improvement goals that she will carry with her to Tuscaloosa, a notable feat to her discipline which she outlines as the biggest lesson learned through athletics.
“I knew swimming was what I wanted to do, and I took the time to work out and swim more,” said Vincent. A former dual sport athlete, who achieved accomplishments in Cross Country as well as receiving Big 10 Conference First-Team Honors, Vincent made the decision to focus primarily on swimming as she knew that was her passion.
Following her is a tremendous level of support from her parents Tracey and Eddie Vincent, along with her younger sister Riley, who Vincent would define as the biggest impacts on her life in various ways, “all three of them have been here supporting me through everything.”
“It already felt like home,” said Vincent, when highlighting her recruiting decision noting the team culture, coaches and the environment as the main reasons that attracted her to the program. “I think more and more about Alabama every day. It doesn’t feel real.” Vincent sees herself having four good years with Alabama and would love to continue swimming and coaching afterwards, which she gained experience with this summer.
The work ethic instilled in Vincent extends into the classroom as she is a part of the National Honor Society and has been named to the Honor Roll every year, achieving a 4.2 GPA. Vincent plans to go in undecided, with a strong interest in Forensics, Psychology and Physical Education, when she steps foot on the Crimson Tide campus in 2023.
The Record Delta is proud to highlight the outstanding work Cadence Vincent has achieved through her academic and athletic success, wishing Vincent a successful senior season.
