Rock Cave man arrested after garden hoe incident

BUCKHANNON — McKinley Storm Riffle, age 27 of Rock Cave, has been charged with malicious wounding following a domestic incident that took place on Monday, May 30.

According to the criminal complaint, Upshur County Sheriff’s Deputy Dakota Linger responded to a residence on McDowell Lane, following a call for help during a domestic. Upon arriving to the scene, Deputy Linger spoke with an individual, later identified as the defendant, who advised Linger that he “got mad” and allegedly hit the victim over the head with a gardening hoe. Deputy Linger then detained Riffle while speaking to the victim.

The victim noted that he was sitting outside with his girlfriend and allegedly “minding his own business” when Riffle supposedly smacked him with a gardening hoe, which caused serious bodily injury. The victim’s girlfriend then yelled “call the cops,” to which the grandmother then contacted 911 to report that the victim has been hit in the head and was bleeding profusely. The defendant was then placed under arrest.

Riffle is currently incarcerated at Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $30,000 cash only bond.
